Veterinary Anthelmintic (Flukicide)
Product Identification
• Generic Name: Triclabendazole Granules
• Strength: 10% (100 mg Triclabendazole per gram)
• Package: 1 kg per bag
Composition
Each gram contains 100 mg Triclabendazole as active ingredient. Excipients: Corn starch, sucrose, povidone K30, magnesium stearate.
Description
Pale beige granular powder, slightly soluble in water.
Pharmacological Action
Triclabendazole is a benzimidazole derivative with highly specific activity against Fasciola (liver flukes) at all developmental stages (immature and adult). It acts by binding to parasite β-tubulin, inhibiting microtubule assembly and blocking glucose uptake, leading to parasite energy depletion and death.
• Spectrum: Highly effective against Fasciola hepatica, Fasciola gigantica in cattle, sheep and goats; also active against paramphistomes.
• Pharmacokinetics: Well absorbed after oral administration; extensively distributed in liver tissue; metabolized in liver and excreted mainly via bile.
Indications
For the treatment and control of acute and chronic fascioliasis (liver fluke disease) caused by Fasciola spp. in cattle, sheep and goats.
Dosage & Administration
Administer orally, mixed with feed or as oral drench after suspension in water.
• Cattle: 12 mg triclabendazole per kg body weight (equivalent to 12 g granules per 100 kg bw), single administration.
• Sheep & Goats: 10 mg triclabendazole per kg body weight (equivalent to 10 g granules per 100 kg bw), single administration. For severe infection, repeat treatment after 4–6 weeks if necessary.
Adverse Reactions
1. Transient soft feces or mild diarrhea may occur in heavy-infection animals due to fluke expulsion.
2. Rare: hypersensitivity reactions in individual animals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to triclabendazole or any excipient.
Precautions
1. Do not use in animals with severe hepatic impairment.
2. Use with caution in pregnant animals during the first trimester.
3. Do not administer concurrently with other flukicides without veterinary advice.
4. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 28 days; Sheep/Goats 21 days
• Milk: 7 days
