Composition
Each gram contains 100 mg Thiamphenicol as active ingredient. Excipients: Sucrose, dextrin, sodium citrate, flavoring agent.
Description
White to pale yellow granular powder, bitter taste.
Pharmacological Action
Thiamphenicol is an amphenicol (chloramphenicol derivative) broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic. It reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibits peptidyl transferase and blocks bacterial protein synthesis.
• Spectrum: Active against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Haemophilus, Bordetella, and some anaerobes and Mycoplasma.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly and completely absorbed orally; widely distributed in tissues and body fluids; excreted mainly as unchanged drug via kidneys.
Indications
For the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible pathogens in pigs, poultry and cattle, including:
1. Respiratory infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, pleuropneumonia
2. Gastrointestinal infections: bacterial enteritis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis
3. Urogenital infections, mastitis and secondary bacterial infections.
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration, mixed with feed or drinking water.
• Pigs: 20–30 mg thiamphenicol per kg bw per day, divided into 2 doses, for 3–5 days.
• Poultry: 20–40 mg/kg bw per day in drinking water, for 3–5 days.
• Cattle: 10–20 mg/kg bw per day, divided into 2 doses, for 3–5 days.
Adverse Reactions
1. Occasional gastrointestinal disturbances: anorexia, diarrhea.
2. Long-term high-dose use may cause reversible bone marrow suppression and erythropoiesis inhibition.
3. May affect immune response during vaccination period.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to thiamphenicol or amphenicol drugs.
2. Animals with severe bone marrow suppression or hematopoietic dysfunction.
Precautions
1. Avoid long-term or overdose administration.
2. Do not use during vaccination period.
3. Use with caution in animals with renal or hepatic impairment.
4. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Pigs 14 days; Poultry 5 days; Cattle 28 days
• Milk: 7 days
Storage
Seal tightly, store in a cool dry place, protected from light and moisture.
