Product Identification
• Generic Name: Tetramisole Hydrochloride Tablets
• Strength: 250 mg Tetramisole Hydrochloride per tablet
• Package: 10 tablets per blister
Composition
Each tablet contains 250 mg Tetramisole Hydrochloride as active ingredient. Excipients: Corn starch, lactose, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate.
Description
Light purple film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological Action
Tetramisole is an imidazothiazole anthelmintic. It acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist on nematode muscle cells, inducing sustained depolarization and spastic paralysis, which leads to expulsion of live worms from the gastrointestinal tract. It also has mild immunomodulatory effects.
• Spectrum: Highly effective against adult and larval gastrointestinal nematodes and lungworms in ruminants and swine, including Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Cooperia, Dictyocaulus, Ascaris suum.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly and completely absorbed orally; widely distributed in tissues; metabolized in liver; excreted mainly via urine.
Indications
For the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworm and lungworm infections in cattle, sheep, goats and swine.
Dosage & Administration
For oral administration.
• Cattle, Sheep & Goats: 10–15 mg tetramisole hydrochloride per kg body weight, single administration.
• Swine: 15–20 mg per kg body weight, single administration.
Adverse Reactions
1. Mild cholinergic symptoms at therapeutic dose: salivation, mild abdominal discomfort, soft stool, usually transient.
2. Overdose may cause tremor, bradycardia, dyspnea and ataxia.
3. Rare hypersensitivity reactions.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to tetramisole or imidazothiazole derivatives.
2. Animals with severe cardiac, hepatic or renal dysfunction.
Precautions
1. Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
2. Do not combine with organophosphorus insecticides or other cholinergic drugs.
3. Use with caution in pregnant and debilitated animals.
4. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 14 days; Sheep & Goats 10 days; Swine 10 days
• Milk: 3 days
Storage
Store in sealed blister, in a cool dry place, protected from light.
