Product Identification
• Generic Name: Enrofloxacin Tablets
• Strength: 100 mg Enrofloxacin per tablet
• Package: 10 tablets per blister
Composition
Each tablet contains 100 mg Enrofloxacin as active ingredient. Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, povidone, magnesium stearate.
Description
White film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological Action
Enrofloxacin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal fluoroquinolone. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and transcription, resulting in rapid bacterial death.
• Antibacterial spectrum: Highly active against Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas, Proteus), Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus) and Mycoplasma.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapid and complete oral absorption; excellent tissue distribution; metabolized partially to active ciprofloxacin; excreted via urine and bile.
Indications
For treatment of susceptible bacterial and mycoplasma infections in cattle, swine and poultry:
1. Respiratory infections: pneumonia, pleuropneumonia, mycoplasmosis
2. Gastrointestinal infections: bacterial enteritis, colibacillosis, salmonellosis
3. Urogenital infections: cystitis, metritis, mastitis
4. Skin, soft tissue and joint infections
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration.
• Cattle & Swine: 2.5–5 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
• Poultry: 5–10 mg per kg body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
Adverse Reactions
1. Transient vomiting, diarrhea or anorexia.
2. May affect articular cartilage development in young growing animals.
3. Rare CNS excitation in renal-impaired animals.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.
2. Contraindicated in young animals under 3 months of age and laying hens.
Precautions
1. Do not co-administer with antacids containing magnesium, aluminum or calcium.
2. Use with caution in animals with epilepsy or renal/hepatic dysfunction.
3. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 14 days; Swine 10 days; Chicken 8 days
• Milk: 3 days
Storage
Store in sealed blister, protected from light, in a cool dry place.
