Product Identification
• Generic Name: Praziquantel Tablets
• Strength: 200 mg Praziquantel per tablet
• Package: 10 tablets per blister
Composition
Each tablet contains 200 mg Praziquantel as active ingredient. Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, povidone, magnesium stearate.
Description
Dark red film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological Action
Praziquantel is a highly effective isoquinoline anti-tapeworm and anti-fluke drug. It increases parasite cell membrane permeability to calcium ions, causing sustained muscle contraction and spastic paralysis, and damages tegumental structure, leading to parasite detachment and death.
• Spectrum: 100% efficacy against all common tapeworms (Moniezia, Taenia, Echinococcus, cysticerci) and schistosomes, and also active against adult liver flukes.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration; widely distributed; metabolized in liver; excreted mainly via urine.
Indications
For treatment of tapeworm infections, schistosomiasis, cysticercosis and fascioliasis in cattle, sheep, goats, swine and dogs.
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration.
• Cattle & Sheep: 10–20 mg praziquantel per kg body weight, single dose for tapeworms; 30 mg/kg for fascioliasis.
• Swine: 10–35 mg per kg body weight, single dose.
• Dogs & Cats: 5–10 mg per kg body weight, single dose.
Adverse Reactions
1. Mild anorexia, vomiting or diarrhea at therapeutic dose.
2. Dizziness or ataxia at high doses; transient and self-resolving.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to praziquantel.
Precautions
1. Use with caution in pregnant animals and animals with severe hepatic impairment.
2. Administer with food to improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
3. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 28 days; Sheep/Goats 14 days; Swine 14 days
• Milk: 7 days
Storage
Store in sealed blister, protected from light and moisture, below 25°C.
