Organophosphate Insecticide Solution for Ruminants
Product Identification
• Generic Name: Malathion Emulsifiable Concentrate
• Strength: 45% w/v (450 mg Malathion per mL)

Description
Brown to reddish-brown oily liquid with characteristic mercaptan odor; forms milky white stable emulsion when diluted with water.
Pharmacological Action
Malathion is a broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide and acaricide. It irreversibly inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the arthropod nervous system, causing accumulation of acetylcholine, sustained nerve excitation and convulsive paralysis, leading to insect death.
• Spectrum: Effective against ticks, mange mites, lice, flies, mosquitoes, keds and other external parasites of cattle, sheep and goats, with contact, stomach and fumigant action.
Indications
For control of external parasitic infestations (ticks, mites, lice, flies) in cattle, sheep and goats; also for environmental disinsection of barns, pens and breeding premises.
Dosage & Administration
Dilute with clean water before use; apply by spraying, dipping or back rubbing.
• Body spraying for ticks & lice: Dilute to 0.05% malathion (1:900 dilution), 1–2 L per animal, spray thoroughly.
• Mange treatment: Dilute to 0.1% malathion (1:450 dilution), spray or dip, repeat after 7–10 days.
• Environmental disinsection: Dilute to 0.2% solution, spray walls, floors and cracks.
Adverse Reactions
1. Mild skin irritation at high concentrations.
2. Inhalation or excessive skin absorption may cause cholinergic poisoning: salivation, lacrimation, diarrhea, muscle tremors, dyspnea.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to organophosphate compounds.
2. Do not use on sick, debilitated or severely stressed animals.
3. Do not apply simultaneously with other organophosphate or carbamate drugs.
Precautions
1. For external use only. Do not administer orally.
2. Operators must wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles and respirator to avoid skin contact and inhalation.
3. Atropine sulfate and pralidoxime iodide are specific antidotes for malathion poisoning.
4. Highly toxic to fish and bees. Do not contaminate water sources, feed or drinking utensils.
5. Do not spray on open wounds or mucous membranes.
