Product Identification
• Generic Name: Flunixin Meglumine Granules
• Strength: 5% (50 mg Flunixin Meglumine per gram)
• Package: 1 kg per bag
Composition
Each gram contains 50 mg Flunixin Meglumine (equivalent to 40 mg flunixin) as active ingredient. Excipients: Mannitol, citric acid, sodium citrate, povidone.
Description
White to off-white granular powder, easily soluble in water.
Pharmacological Action
Flunixin meglumine is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) activity, blocks prostaglandin synthesis, and exerts anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; high bioavailability; widely distributed in tissues; excreted mainly via urine and bile.
Indications
For the relief of fever, inflammation and pain associated with respiratory disease, mastitis, colic, musculoskeletal disorders and post-surgical conditions in cattle, pigs and horses.
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration, dissolved in drinking water or mixed with feed.
• Cattle & Horses: 2.2 mg flunixin per kg body weight once daily, for 3–5 consecutive days.
• Pigs: 2 mg flunixin per kg body weight once daily, for 3–5 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
1. Occasional gastrointestinal irritation: vomiting, gastric ulceration at high doses or prolonged use.
2. Rare: renal papillary necrosis with long-term administration.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to flunixin or other NSAIDs.
2. Animals with gastrointestinal ulceration, bleeding disorders or severe renal impairment.
Precautions
1. Use with caution in dehydrated, hypovolemic or hypotensive animals.
2. Do not combine with other NSAIDs, corticosteroids or nephrotoxic drugs.
3. Avoid prolonged use beyond 5 days without veterinary supervision.
4. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 28 days; Pigs 14 days; Horses 28 days
• Milk: 4 days
Storage
Store in tightly sealed container, protected from moisture, below 25°C.
