Product Identification
• Generic Name: Fenbendazole Tablets
• Strength: 250 mg Fenbendazole per tablet
• Package: 10 tablets per blister
Composition
Each tablet contains 250 mg Fenbendazole as active ingredient. Excipients: Lactose, corn starch, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate.
Description
Light green film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological Action
Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic. It binds to parasite β-tubulin, inhibits microtubule assembly, impairs glucose transport and energy metabolism, resulting in death of adult and larval nematodes and tapeworms.
• Spectrum: Active against gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms and tapeworms in ruminants, swine and companion animals, including Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Cooperia, Nematodirus, Oesophagostomum, Ascaris, Dictyocaulus, Taenia, Moniezia.
• Pharmacokinetics: Partially absorbed orally; metabolized to active oxfendazole in liver; excreted mainly via feces.
Indications
For treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworm, lungworm and tapeworm infections in cattle, sheep, goats and swine.
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration.
• Cattle: 5–7.5 mg per kg body weight, single dose.
• Sheep & Goats: 5 mg per kg body weight, single dose.
• Swine: 3–5 mg per kg body weight, single dose.
Adverse Reactions
Well tolerated at recommended dose. Rare mild vomiting or soft stool at high doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to fenbendazole or benzimidazole derivatives.
Precautions
1. Use with caution in animals during first trimester of pregnancy.
2. Do not combine with other benzimidazole anthelmintics.
3. For veterinary use only.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 8 days; Sheep/Goats 6 days; Swine 5 days
• Milk: 3 days
Storage
Store in sealed blister, in a cool dry place, protected from light.
