Composition
Each tablet contains 200 mg Enrofloxacin as active ingredient. Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, povidone K30, magnesium stearate.
Description
White to pale yellow film-coated tablets, odorless, bitter taste.
Pharmacological Action
Enrofloxacin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal fluoroquinolone. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and transcription. It is active against Gram-negative pathogens (E. coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Proteus), Gram-positive pathogens (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus) and Mycoplasma spp. It is rapidly and nearly completely absorbed orally, widely distributed in tissues, and excreted mainly as unchanged drug in urine.
Indications
For treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in dogs and cats:
1. Respiratory infections: bronchitis, pneumonia, rhinitis
2. Gastrointestinal infections: bacterial enteritis, salmonellosis
3. Urogenital infections: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, endometritis
4. Skin & soft tissue infections: abscess, cellulitis, wound infection, otitis externa
5. Osteomyelitis, septicemia
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration. Dogs & Cats: 5–10 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight, once daily. For severe infections, up to 15 mg/kg once daily. Course: 3–5 days for acute infections; 7–14 days for chronic/severe infections. May be administered directly or mixed with a small amount of food.
Adverse Reactions
1. Transient gastrointestinal disturbances: vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia.
2. Rare: CNS excitation or seizures in animals with renal impairment.
3. May impair articular cartilage development in growing animals.
4. Rare hypersensitivity: rash, pruritus.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or any excipient.
2. Puppies/kittens under 8 weeks of age.
3. Animals with epilepsy or seizure history.
Precautions
1. Use with caution in pregnant and lactating animals.
2. Dose adjustment required for hepatic/renal insufficiency.
3. Do not co-administer with magnesium/aluminum/calcium-containing antacids.
4. Avoid concurrent use with theophylline or NSAIDs without veterinary supervision.
5. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
Not applicable for companion animals. Not for use in food-producing animals.
Storage
Store in tightly closed container, protected from light, in a cool dry place below 25°C.
