Product Identification
• Generic Name: Doxycycline Hyclate Tablets
• Strength: 100 mg Doxycycline per tablet (as hyclate)
• Package: 10 tablets per blister
Composition
Each tablet contains 100 mg Doxycycline (equivalent to doxycycline hyclate) as active ingredient. Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, stearic acid, film coating premix.
Description
Purple-red film-coated tablets; yellow core.
Pharmacological Action
Doxycycline is a long-acting semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic. It reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting aminoacyl-tRNA binding and blocking bacterial protein synthesis.
• Antibacterial spectrum: Broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Rickettsia, Spirochetes and some protozoa.
• Pharmacokinetics: High lipophilicity, nearly complete oral absorption, excellent tissue penetration, long elimination half-life; excreted via non-renal pathways.
Indications
For treatment of susceptible bacterial and mycoplasma infections in cattle, swine and poultry:
1. Respiratory tract infections: enzootic pneumonia, porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC), avian mycoplasmosis
2. Gastrointestinal infections: colibacillosis, salmonellosis
3. Urogenital infections, mastitis, metritis
4. Tick-borne diseases and chlamydial infections
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration, calculated as doxycycline base.
• Cattle: 3–5 mg per kg body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
• Swine: 5–10 mg per kg body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
• Poultry: 10–20 mg per kg body weight, once daily for 3–5 days.
Adverse Reactions
1. Mild gastrointestinal irritation: nausea, diarrhea.
2. Long-term use may cause dental discoloration in young animals and intestinal flora imbalance.
3. Rare photosensitivity reaction.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
2. Contraindicated in laying hens and animals with severe renal impairment.
Precautions
1. Avoid administration with calcium, magnesium, iron supplements or dairy products (reduces absorption).
2. Use with caution in young and pregnant animals.
3. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 5 days; Swine 5 days; Chicken 3 days
• Milk: 7 days
Storage
Store in tightly sealed blister, protected from light and moisture, below 25°C.
