Liquid Disinfectant for Aquaculture
Product Identification
• Generic Name: Benzalkonium Bromide Solution
• Strength: 10% w/v (100 mg Benzalkonium Bromide per mL)
• Package: 1 L per bottle
Composition
Each mL contains 100 mg Benzalkonium Bromide (quaternary ammonium compound) as active ingredient. Excipients: Purified water, chelating agent, pH buffer.
Description
Colorless to light yellow clear liquid, with aromatic odor and bitter taste; foams strongly when shaken.
Pharmacological Action
Benzalkonium bromide is a cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant disinfectant. It aggregates on microbial cell membranes, alters membrane permeability, causes leakage of intracellular contents and denatures bacterial proteins, resulting in pathogen death.
• Spectrum: Effective against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and some enveloped viruses, with additional cleaning and deodorizing properties. Bactericidal efficacy is enhanced in alkaline water.
Indications
For disinfection of aquaculture water bodies, fish bodies, farming tools and pond facilities. Used for prevention and adjuvant treatment of bacterial diseases in freshwater/marine fish, shrimp and crabs, including gill rot, red skin disease, enteritis, bacterial septicemia and tail rot.
Dosage & Administration
1. Full-pond splashing (water disinfection):
৹ Routine disinfection: 0.1–0.2 mL per cubic meter of water, diluted evenly and splashed across the entire pond.
৹ Disease treatment: 0.3–0.5 mL per cubic meter of water, applied once every 2–3 days for 2–3 consecutive treatments.
2. Fish body dip disinfection:
৹ Dilute to 10–20 mg/L, dip fry and fingerlings for 10–15 minutes with continuous aeration.
3. Tool & pond disinfection: Dilute at 1:500, wipe or soak for 30 minutes.
Adverse Reactions
No obvious adverse reactions at recommended dosage. Overdose may cause gill irritation, increased mucus secretion and stress response in fish.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to quaternary ammonium compounds.
2. Do not combine with anionic surfactants, soaps, detergents, iodides, nitrates and permanganates.
Precautions
1. For external aquaculture use only. Do not administer orally to aquatic animals.
2. Calculate water volume accurately and strictly follow the recommended dosage to avoid overdose.
3. Use with caution in cold-water fish, fry and juvenile shrimp/crabs; reduce dosage by half for sensitive groups.
4. Apply on sunny days and maintain aeration during and after treatment.
5. Operators shall wear protective gloves and goggles. Rinse immediately with plenty of water in case of skin/eye contact.
6. Keep out of reach of children.
Storage
Store in tightly sealed original container, protected from light, in a cool dry place below 25°C.
