Composition
Each gram contains 100 mg Albendazole as active ingredient. Excipients: Lactose, corn starch, sodium carboxymethyl starch, magnesium stearate.
Description
White or off-white granular powder, odorless.
Pharmacological Action
Albendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic. It inhibits parasite tubulin polymerization, disrupts glucose uptake and energy metabolism, and kills adult, larval and egg stages of parasites.
• Spectrum: Active against gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, tapeworms and liver flukes in cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry, including Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Nematodirus, Cooperia, Ascaris, Oesophagostomum, Dictyocaulus, Moniezia, Fasciola.
• Pharmacokinetics: Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; metabolized to active sulfoxide metabolite in liver; widely distributed in tissues.
Indications
For the treatment and control of mixed gastrointestinal nematode, lungworm, tapeworm and liver fluke infections in cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry.
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration, mixed with feed.
• Cattle: 10–15 mg albendazole per kg bw (10–15 g granules per 100 kg bw), single dose.
• Sheep & Goats: 5–10 mg/kg bw, single dose.
• Pigs: 5–10 mg/kg bw, single dose.
• Poultry: 10–20 mg/kg bw, administered in feed for 2 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
1. Mild gastrointestinal disturbances (anorexia, soft stool) at therapeutic dose.
2. Rare: alopecia, bone marrow suppression at prolonged high doses.
Contraindications
1. Hypersensitivity to benzimidazole drugs.
2. Contraindicated in ewes during the first 45 days of pregnancy and sows during the first 30 days of pregnancy.
Precautions
1. Avoid long-term or overdose administration.
2. Do not use concurrently with other benzimidazole anthelmintics.
3. For veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.
Withdrawal Period
• Meat: Cattle 14 days; Sheep 4 days; Pigs 7 days; Poultry 4 days
• Milk: 2.5 days
Storage
Seal tightly, store in a cool dry place, protected from light.
